This is a summarize of this story. When Kokum ( protagonist ) was young, her mother told her go out and did not live with her. She went to the forest, and when she was lying in the canoe. New father realized her and she had a new family. One day, she needed to go to the residential school and she must work on the field (hard-working). Many students of this school tried to escape but they could not do it. She missed her family so much, so she affected to do all things well to go out the residential school. She is a survivor in residential school. 149
